Love & Romance

2023 is a Soft Wood element year. Soft Wood is associated with the adolescence human stage of development, the ages between 13-18, when hormones are surging and sexuality is budding. It’s the time of life in which you come of age and begin to show interest in dating, romance and sex. You have your first crush, your first kiss or your fist sexual experience and maybe even, your first break up and broken heart.

Soft Wood’s “Peach Blossom” is a juvenile energy that tends to engage in serial dating. It fuels very sexually charged relationships that may be exciting and even romantic but don’t necessarily result in lasting marriages. Dating may lead to going steady, moving in together and even marriage proposals and long engagements. But they seldom lead to the serial monogamy, committed relationships and lifetime partnerships that are represented by Mother Earth energy.

Love is in the air!

“Peach Blossom” energy brings new love and romance into your life. So, if you’re single and looking for love, this is a great year to start dating. However, because this energy initiates new love, it creates the potential for infidelity and extramarital affairs.

Soft Wood’s highest value is loyalty. They will stay in a marriage that doesn’t make them happy or fulfilled, “for the kids”. However, when a Soft Wood element doesn’t have what they need for personal wellbeing or is out of balance energetically, they can be one to step out of their marriage to cheat on their spouse.

In this blog, you’ll learn how to channel this serial dating energy into other areas of your life. This is the year to date yourself, establish date night in your marriage or go on dates with both romantic interests and platonic friends or colleagues, even your children!

Solo Dates

Even if you are happily married or in a relationship, it’s a good practice to spend some time each week doing something you enjoy by yourself. Go to a local cafe or bakery for a coffee and pastry. Or, go to your favorite book shop to peruse the new books in a beloved genre or the farmer’s market to shop for the week’s fresh fruit and veggies. Take a drive to the ocean to watch the sunrise or sunset or a beautiful place in nature to read or walk.

Best Friend Dates

Like romantic relationship, friendship are cultivated through quality time. Plan to do fun things with friends as often as possible. Go to lunch once a month. Or, meet up to do favorite activities that you have a mutual interest in together. Take a hot yoga class or play a round of golf. Go shopping at outlet stores or get brunch.

Weekly Dates

If you’re married, date your spouse. If you’re not already, this is the year to establish date night. Pick an evening and get a sitter. Invest the time and money into your relationship. Plan weekly dates that you both can look forward to enjoying together. Try a new restaurant and different kinds of cuisine each week. Go on day trips to a destination within diving distance. And book a hotel or bed and breakfast for a weekend getaway in a favorite city, mountain resort or coastal town.

Artist Dates

If you’re a writer, creator or artist of any kind, plan some artist dates for yourself. Go to museums and art galleries, botanical gardens and wineries, libraries and bookstores. Take a cooking class or attend a writer’s workshop. Go to a coffee shop to write, edit or create content. Spend time in nature every week, sketching, creative writing, journaling or just thinking.

Study Dates

Soft Wood energy is highly favorable for students on all ages! It’s particularly supportive of writing essays for school, papers for degrees and personal statements for college applications. Meet up with fellow students, friends and tutors for some study dates throughout the week. Study together in the school cafeteria or public library, outside on the grass under the shade of some trees, in your dorm room or bedroom at home.

Writing Dates

Soft Wood energy is also associated with the written word. If you’re wring a book, get out of the house at least once a week to fulfill your daily word count. Take your laptop somewhere that’s conducive to your writing style. Try writing in a whisper quiet library or coffee shop that other writers and artists frequent.

Work Dates

Soft Wood is represented by the archetype of “The Entrepreneur”. It has highly auspicious energy for business growth and entrepreneurial success. It’s also represented by small teams of four, so this is a great year to find a local co-working space to use. Work on projects with members of your staff, other colleagues or co-workers. Or, work on your own in communal spaces.

Play Dates

Play dates aren’t just for children. Tap into your inner child and plan some fun activities to do with your spouse or friends. Plan a game night to play card games or board games. Gather at a local bar for pool, a restaurant for karaoke night or the arcade for pinball. Go for a bike ride. Meet up at the local bowling alley or roller skating rink. Or, go to the beach for a game of volleyball or frisbee.

Parent-Child Dates

One the the best things you can do is to plan to spend some quality time with each one of your children individually, at least once a month. Ask them what they’d like to do and let them help you plan your dates. Make reservations for high tea. Go miniature golfing. Get ice cream after a baseball game. Or, just pack a picnic lunch to eat at the beach or local park.

Your dates will change as your children grow up. WhenI was in middle school, my dad would take me to Lake Arrowhead on Saturday mornings to eat breakfast and read our books. My adult son and I like to go a Scandinavian bakery for cappuccinos. My daughter and I like to share a sourdough crust pizza and shop for used books and clothes at local thrift stores.

Romantic Dates

If you’re ready to add some romance to your life, start dating. To meet new people, go to social and local events. To meet someone, dress your best, smile and spend time doing the things you enjoy. Complete an online dating profile. Let friends set you up on a blind date. Or, go on a double date.
